Winter Servicing Advice
Winter is just round the corner, and soon it will be time to put your mower to bed.
I know that some people like to clean and put their own mower to bed, but for those people who don't want to, we can offer a comprehensive winter services at very affordable prices.
So to save the hassle of trying to start your mower in the spring, when as we all know the grass starts to grow like mad, and you need your mower to be working and not sat it the shed waiting for attention.
I have put together a list of the essential things that must be done to your machine before you put it away.
| Empty the fuel tank
| | Remove air filter and clean or replace
| | Drain out all old engine oil (and recycle)
| | Re-fill the sump with fresh oil
| | Fill the tank with fresh fuel and add a fuel stabilizer, start machine to circulate additive round the carburettor
| | Remove the spark plug and pour about ½ oz (15ml) of clean engine oil into the cylinder, fit new spark plug, and disconnect the HT lead, or power wire and crank over slowly to distribute the oil.
| | Disconnect the battery wires negative first, and if possible remove the battery from the machine, WEARING GOGLES check the acid levels, top up if needed, charge and store in a dry place off the damp floor.
| | Completely clean the mower or machine, remove all grass and dirt, make sure it is clean and dry, then oil and lubricate all moving parts, and underside of deck,
| | If there are any signs of rust then remove it and treat. IF YOU ARE WORKING UNDER ANY MACHINES, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE COMPLETELY DISABLED THE ENGINE AND MACHINE.
| | Now you are ready to put your mower to bed, make sure you store it in a clean dry area, BUT NOT NEAR A STOVE, OR WATER HEATER WHICH USES A PILOT LIGHT, OR ANY DEVICE THAT COULD COUSE A SPARK.
|
* Note if you don’t have any additive for the fuel then drain tank and run machine till it stops, then follow steps from 4-9 above
